How To Homemade: Mother’s Milk Tea

16 Apr

Many mixes experimenting for a beloved Mother’s Milk tea have been created and finally… an herbal mixology has married my ideal blend of herbs for my favorite nursing tea. This blend of herbs was first inspired by some of the ingredients found in a popular lataction stimulating tea from Traditional Medicinals and Mountain Rose Herbs. Researching those common ingredients, my interests grew and I started an investigation more into the properties of other galactagogue herbs that could go into a more personal tea blend.

Galactagogues are plants that contain substances to either increase milk production and or milk flow a.k.a the “let down” in human and lactating animals. More info about galactagogues are available from this infamous breastfeeding support site http://kellymom.com/bf/can-i-breastfeed/herbs/herbal_galactagogue/

Here is the milk inducing tea containing my favorite blend of galactagogues. Keep in mind that these recipes are conjurings of a kitchen witch in the spirit of sharing only not prescribing.

2 Equal parts Borage, *Goats Rue, fenugreek seed, & fennel seed

1 Part Blessed thistle, Rosehips, & Anise seed

~Steep for 5-10 minutes drink hot or make a big batch then steep for 30 minutes and place in a pitcher for an iced tea to sip through out the day~

*Goats Rue I have found to be my favorite herb for Nursing as it helps with both milk production and flow. Incorporating Goats Rue with Borage has been used to also help with increasing breast size.

  1. Where do you buy your herbs? Would love to make a tea that will balance my hormones such as Borage and Fenugreek coz I have a shortage of estrogen in my body. Or do you sell this concoction?

    Thanks!
